The Peacemaker was filmed in April 1977 at Pakenham, near
Bury St. Edmunds (the
Windmill sequences), Hitcham in Suffolk (near Ipswich on
the B1115) and Barton Mills
(between Newmarket and Thetford on the A11).
The Pakenham windmill was erected in 1830 and was used
until the 1950s. The mill no
longer grinds but the sails still turn. The mill was
restored as recently as May 2000 and
the family who owns it are welcoming to visitors who may
want to see it at close
quarters. You can buy flour and oats from the mill
office.
Directions: Pakenham is
best reached either by the A413 out of Bury St. Edmunds.
